Logan the Aldi of housing

Logan is the Aldi of the property market, a local sales agent has said.

Cheap, reliable, and in demand.

“Woolworths and Coles are Rochedale and Coomera, and we are Aldi,” Kapil Thakur from Harcourts Beenleigh said.

“Those suburbs have gone past $1 million, while we are still at $750,000-$800,000.

“We are seeing a lot of buyers.”

He said young people priced out of their homes in the Gold Coast and Brisbane were turning to suburbs like Bethania, Edens Landing, and their surroundings, which are building a reputation as havens for first-home-buyers.

At a recent open-home in Edens Landing, Mr Thakur said that of the nine offers received, six were made by Gold Coast residents.

“Every property we are listing, we are seeing people who can’t afford the Gold Coast, or kids who grew up in that region… but can’t afford to buy there and this is the next best.”

At 22 Galena Court, Bethania, Mr Thakur said the same trend was occurring.

“Our first open home was on Saturday. Out of five groups, four of them were from the Gold Coast.”

He said these buyers were chasing a variety of properties for a range of purposes. Some are seeking townhouses as investments, while others are young families looking to upsize.

“Across the board, it’s the same story. With townhouses, because they are still in that affordable range of $600,000-$650,000, we are getting, out of 10 people coming through, five from the Gold Coast and five from the Brisbane area.

“The demand is still high and people are understanding that if they can’t afford a house, there is a townhouse. Two years ago these townhouses were selling for $410,000, now they are selling for over $625,000 and over.”
