Ground has broken on the site of a future community centre in Flagstone after five years of planning.
The $8 million Flagstone Community Hub, near the popular Flagstone Adventure Park, is set to open in mid-2026.
Once complete, the space will host community events, services and meetings.
Local councillor Natalie Willcocks said the centre would be well-used.
“There are a lot of people eagerly awaiting the delivery of this important building,” Cr Willcocks said.
“Planning first started in 2020, and the new facility is the result of wide-reaching collaboration over the past few years.”
The Flagstone Community Hub was identified in the City of Logan Community Infrastructure Strategy 2019-2041, a document outlining Logan City Council’s long-term direction for the city’s current and future community needs.
Mayor Jon Raven said the hub on Parklands Drive was an important and much-needed community facility for the booming area.
The Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area is expected to be home to 138,000 people and more than 50,000 homes when fully developed.
“Our city continues to be one of the fastest growing in Australia and delivering community assets, like the Flagstone Community Hub, is important,” Cr Raven said.
“This will be a welcoming place where people can connect, have fun and access support services close to home.”
