One-way screw helps prevent plate theft

Police have set the scene:

You’re woken by the high pitch screech of the garbage truck hurtling down the street at 6.30am and remember that those bins didn’t put themselves out last night.

You race up, quickly chuck on the closest pair of mismatched-undersized shoes you can find and dart out to the street.

You make it in time. The bins have successfully been emptied. Crisis averted. Mission accomplished. [Top Gun Anthem plays softly in the distance]

You walk back to the front door and see your car parked in the driveway and something’s just not right. You ponder, wonder, hypothesise…and it hits you.

Your heart sinks and your belly fills with butterflies.

Your number plates are gone…

That was exactly how a police statement arrived last week, stating that Springwood Police had handed out 166 packs of free anti-theft screw packs to the community.

And there are still packs remaining.

“Safe PL8 Packs” were developed by the Logan District Crime Prevention Unit.

Anti-theft screws are a special type of ‘one way’ screw which when used to attach your registration plate to your vehicle, can only be removed with a specially designed tool.

This special removal tool is not sold to members of the public and can only be used by police officers.

Installation is easy and only requires a screwdriver.
