One in coma, another in custody after Eagleby shooting

A shooting at Eagleby over the weekend has landed one man in a coma and another in police custody.

One of the men, aged 38, was arrested on Monday after he was allegedly found hiding from police in a cupboard.

In a statement released today, police alleged several shots were fired through a glass door at a home on Saverin Road at around 10pm on 11 January.

One of the bullets hit a 36-year-old man in the chest, police said.

“He was initially transported to Logan Hospital by a witness before being transferred to Gold Coast University Hospital, where he remains in an induced coma,” the statement reads.

On Monday, police allegedly found a .22 calibre gun during a search warrant at another Eagleby home

“A man was later located hiding in a wardrobe at a property in Cornubia a short time later on the same day,” police alleged.

Detective Inspector Chris Knight commended the rapid response and teamwork that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

“Our officers acted swiftly, with the Dog Squad, tactical units, and investigators working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community,” he said.

“This arrest demonstrates the dedication and professionalism of Logan Police in tackling serious crimes.”

A 38-year-old man has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm or transmit serious disease and unlawful possession of weapons category A/B/M – firearm used to commit indictable offence. He was remanded in custody, with bail opposed.

Investigations are continuing.

Police continue to encourage anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
