Those who go without to be gifted this Christmas

One-hundred single parents, widows, widowers and struggling families will receive presents this Christmas thanks to the efforts of two community stalwarts.

Formally Ever After’s Tammy Robinson-Heynatz and 4207 Helping Hands’ Claire Allen just weeks ago decided to make hampers for locals doing it tough.

So the two friends got to work, and with the help of the Logan community, they packed the final hamper last Wednesday.

“We wanted to help those that are doing it tough on Christmas day and won’t have food to eat,” Ms Robinson-Heynatz said.

“I personally grew up without very much so I know how it feels to not have those little extras.

“In some ways, the majority of these hampers are so kids aren’t missing out on those extras we have at Christmas time.

“It just really matters.”

After collecting food and monetary donations from dozens of local residents (some of whom donated hundreds of dollars each), businesses and politicians, Ms Robinson-Heynatz and Ms Allen packed all 100 hampers.

The gift packs contain toys, food, lollies, cordial, pancake mix, bon bons, chocolate, gravy, kids’ cereal and more – the list goes on.

“There was a lot to sort through,” Ms Robinson-Heynatz said.

“These baskets weren’t just Claire and I – they are from so many amazing, kind people who want to make sure that the hampers and presents will be wonderful.

“We were truly blown away by the kindness of others.”

Some hampers will go to support workers for their clients, some to single mums and dads, and others to the elderly.

“Mostly they are all just heading to those who need that extra love hope and support at Christmas,” Ms Robinson-Heynatz said.

“One dad who is getting a hamper for himself and five kids had his friend nominate the family for a basket.

“He’s so happy to have the support this Christmas and… it’s the first time he’s ever gotten help from anyone.

“Times are tough for so many.”
