“Dangerous” and “giant” hail headed for parts of Logan

A very dangerous thunderstorm producing “giant hailstones” is heading towards Logan this afternoon, according to The Bureau of Meteorology.

Four centimetre hailstones were reported at Flagstone at 3.15pm.

At 3.31pm, large hailstones and damaging winds were also reported at Greenbank, and are forecast to affect Logan Central by 3.55pm.

The BOM claims it detected the storm at 2:10 pm, and subsequently issued a warning to people in parts of Logan, Ipswich, Gympie, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast and Noosa Council Areas.

“This thunderstorm is moving towards the north,” a BOM warning read.

“It is forecast to affect Boonah and the area between Boonah and Beaudesert by 2:40 pm and Beaudesert and Bundamba Lagoon by 3:10 pm.”
