A group of former sailors last week unveiled a memorial at Beenleigh dedicated to their naval comrades, both past and present.
The Beenleigh and District Sub Section of the Naval Association Queensland spent 18 months planning the memorial and with the help of a grant and multiple Bunnings barbeques, it is finally a reality.
The memorial can be found at the Beenleigh and Mt Warren RSL and Golf Club.
Naval Association Beenleigh secretary Brenda Schuurman said it was all thanks to the drive of Keith Dickson, sub section members and the RSL.
The Beenleigh sub section meets regularly on the last Sunday of every month – except in December and January.
Open to all former naval personnel, the group meets at Beenleigh RSL at around 11.00 am, keeping each other informed about all matter’s navy related, followed by a social catch-up lunch.
Ms Schuurman said new members were always welcome and could contact her via email – brendasch@bigpond.com.
