50 cent public transport fares in action
Our government’s 50 cent public transport fares initiative is underway on the Translink network across Queensland.
Commuters who travel from Loganlea Station to the City on a train five days a week will save more than $60 a week.
On day one of 50 cent fares, Queenslanders saved around $1 million – and it’s just the beginning.
This cost-of-living relief initiative will run for six months to help families save on household bills.
It’s just one of our many of our nation-leading cost of living relief program, helping to remove some of the financial pressure facing Queenslanders.
For example, every house in our community (and all of Queensland) has received a $1,000 credit towards their power bill.
And on top of that, the Federal Government is adding $300 for every household.
This means so many households won’t pay for electricity for a year.
At a time when so many families are feeling the pinch, I know these cost-of-living measures will help to provide a sense of relief.
Enhanced mental health care at Logan Hospital
The mental health and wellbeing of our community is one of my top priorities.
That’s why I’m so proud to see innovative mental health care services come to life at our very own Logan Hospital.
In a progressive move, Senior Clinical Psychologist Jessica Hampton has established a psychologist role in the Intensive Care Unit, home to some of our sickest patients.
We know that up to 40 per cent of critically ill patients develop symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PSTD, and that psychologists in the Intensive Care Unit are needed.
However, hospitals are yet to integrate psychologists and allied health workers into the ICU, making Jessica’s new role a Queensland Health-first initiative.
Through this new role, Jessica has commenced a PhD and continues to work toward enhancing patient care through a multidisciplinary approach.
Our community is lucky to have a health hero like her.
The Miles Labor Government is committed to strengthening mental health services, investing in more beds, more staff, and developing crucial new strategies, just like this one.
