Open letter to the people of Logan City

Dear all,

Facebook today banned news outlets in Australia, clearly a political decision with far-reaching repercussions.

The decision effectively removes professionally curated news from their platform, clearing the way for misinformation.

However, Facebook can’t ban local newspapers.

MyCity Logan has set out to fill an important role within our local community – to provide a newspaper which makes access to local news FREE to our growing neighbourhoods.

Your new local newspaper has already published valuable information about the upcoming Covid vaccine, our local economic recovery, and thrives on the success stories within our communities.

Now, we need your help.

It is more important than ever for people to subscribe to our digital edition. It’s free, all we ask for is an email address, and it ensures you’re being informed of local issues which will impact the way you live.

Today is a powerful reminder of the importance of local newspapers as a trusted and independent source of local news.

MyCity Logan is asking you, our readers, to share this subscription link with your friends. MyCity Logan is asking businesses to express their support for local news by sharing the link with their database.

This is a matter of principle. MyCity Logan is proudly committed to providing you with a news product you can hold and read every Tuesday.

MyCity Logan’s business model was built on a combination of digital and traditional news dissemination methods, so we are not reliant on Facebook to drive our existence. We are however, in a position to prove that newspapers hold a valued place as the primary source of news in our great city.

I personally, thank our monthly readership in excess of 100,000 people for your continued support. A also thank our advertisers who see how valuable a true and reliable source of local information can be.

Simon Holt

Editor and founder, MyCity Logan.
