Health
This budget promised more than $100 million to healthcare in Logan.
$80 million out of a total $530 million was allocated to the second stage of the Logan Hospital expansion project.
This stage will deliver 112 extra beds and a range of clinical and support services.
An additional $24.3 million in this budget, of a total $460.9 million, will go towards adding 262 beds and bed alternatives to the hospital and its maternity ward.
$6 million of budget funding will go to the construction of a new and improved ambulance station at Springwood.
Schools
Funding for local education projects includes more than $30 million for the construction of two future schools at high-growth suburbs Greenbank and Park Ridge, which will cost a total $148 million.
$14.1 million was outlined for the development of an employment and training facility in the city, which will provide 500 job placements per year.
The TAFE campus at Loganlea will receive a $3.8 million clinical skills laboratory, while $58 million of $162 million was dedicated to providing free nursing diplomas.
The budget also put $21.4 million of a total $41.3 million spend to deliver additional learning spaces in Logan.
Disaster recovery and homeless support
The state government promised $10.6 million to the delivery of recovery and betterment projects to council assets following natural disasters.
$76.7 million out of a $231 million total spend has been promised to rebuild, repair or retrofit homes with flood-resistant designs and materials to “reduce the impacts of future flood events”.
The budget also dedicated $53.6 million to social housing in the city, including the purchase of the former Tanah Merah retirement village.
Following minor upgrades, the building will provide a mix of 124 one and two-bedroom “affordable” units to locals late this year.
Environment
The renewable-energy mega-battery currently being built at Greenbank, capable of powering 66,000 homes at once for two hours, has been allocated $131.4 million in this budget, out of a $325.4 million total spend.
The battery, which will store wind and solar energy, will help to support the grid during outages or high-stress periods, and will be located next to Powerlink’s Greenbank Substation.
$8 million was promised for the addition of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and to explore innovative “smart” integration and management of the infrastructure.
