Secret Santa makes a splash

A mystery man made a $500 donation to the Eagleby pool to completely subsidise locals’ fees over Christmas.

The man wishes to remain anonymous, but hopes his actions spark discussion in the community and “shed light” on the issue of pool entry charges in Logan.

“Leading up to this gesture, I had become aware of Brisbane Council reducing pool prices to $2 for the warmer months, while the Gold Coast Council even offered free access to public pools for a limited time,” he said.

“Hoping that Logan City Council would consider a similar initiative, it became evident that no such plans were in place.

“Instead of resorting to online criticism, I chose to take a proactive approach to draw attention from both locals and councillors.”

The man gifted $500 to the Eagleby pool, making entry free for around 40 adults and 60 children.

“This initiative successfully captured the interest of residents in the Eagleby suburb,” he said.

“Despite speculations among some supporters that the donation may have originated from councillor Karen Murphy, I can assure you that it was not the case.

“I believe this incident sheds light on the concerns of the community, and I hope it prompts further discussion among both residents and council members.”

Logan City Council made Logan West pool free for one day last year, following the devastating Christmas tornado.

Eagleby pool prices are:

  • Adults (15 years and over) $5.80
  • Children (2 – 14 years) $4.20
  • Family Pass $18.50
  • Concession (Pensioner, Senior, Student with Concession Card) $4.20
