More rain creates cause for low-risk flood warning in hot spots

OVERNIGHT rain, and more predicted tonight, has led to a risk of minor flooding in hot zones of the Logan and Albert rivers.

Bureau of Meteorology reports have said the threat of minor flooding at Wolffdene remains low, but they’re still asking residents to be alert.

“Further rain and the chance of thunderstorms are forecast later on Monday (today) and into Tuesday which is likely to cause renewed river level rises over the next few days,” the weather warning said.

The situation is being monitored closely and warnings will be updated as required, it said.

The warning said minor flooding may occur along the Logan River to Yarrahappini.

“The Logan River at Beaudesert may exceed the minor flood level (5.50 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday,” it said.

“Further rises are possible.

“The Logan River at Maclean Bridge is likely to remain below the minor flood level (10m) overnight Monday into Tuesday, however renewed river level rises to the minor flood level are possible from Tuesday.”

And renewed river level rises may occur along the Albert River.

“Renewed river level rises are possible along the Albert River at Wolffdene during Monday evening and into Tuesday, but river levels are likely to remain below the minor flood level (6m),” the warning said.

The bureau reiterated flood advice, urging people to stay away from excess water.

“If it’s flooded, forget it.”

For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
