Dive in for safe summer fun

Summer has arrived in the City of Logan and December kicked off with hot and humid weather.

As a keen swimmer, I know there’s no better way to cool off on a hot day than jumping in the pool.

The City of Logan has six Council-owned Leisure Centres that provide a place for residents to take a refreshing dip or do some recreational lap swimming.

Council recognises the importance of our aquatic centres, and we continue to invest in our facilities to ensure they have something on offer for everyone from serious lap swimmers through to families spending a day at the pool or water play area.

Earlier this month, we unveiled the new splashpad at the Logan North Aquatic Centre.

The new $2.7 million water play area, features a sea-themed design and, complements the multimillion upgrade to the 50-metre Jodie Henry Pool completed last year.

We also welcomed the re-opening of the Eagleby Aquatic Centre 25-metre beach-entry pool following works to refresh the community facility. New shade sails, shelters and seating were installed as part of the upgrade to create an environment the whole family can enjoy.

Regardless of whether you are going for a swim at a Council-owned Leisure Centre or in your own backyard pool, the importance of safety around water can’t be understated.

When water is involved, tragedy can happen in an instant.

Logan City Council urges all parents, carers and property owners to be safety heroes around water this summer.

This includes ensuring your pool complies with Queensland safety regulations. Pool safety heroes are urged to:
• Never lock or prop open pool gates
• Ensure pool gates are self-latching
• Always supervise children and put your phone down
• Teach kids about pool safety
• Learn CPR

All pool owners have a responsibility to comply with regulations to keep children safe around water.

Taking the time today to check your pool safety is up to standard could save a life.
