Cedar Creek Gem – horse lovers paradise

Penny and Iain Mackenzie purchased 635-643 Plunkett Road at Cedar Creek in 2000.

Their daughter, now 19, has lived on the same property her whole life.

So, when it comes time to move out, as the home is currently on the market, Mrs Mackenzie said more than just one tear would be shed.

“This place is a home, it’s not just a house,” Mrs Mackenzie said.

“We felt that way as soon as we walked in when we bought it.”

Mrs Mackenzie said she still felt the same way about the home, even after 23 years.

“It’s one of those houses that as soon as you walk in you go ‘wow’,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter where you are in the house, there’s a beautiful view.”

Her daughter Madeline loves horses, so they installed top-of-the-range equestrian infrastructure.

The five-acre property contains a horse arena, paddocks and stables – all built by Equestrian Land Development.

“So, the fit out in the stables is second to none,” Mrs Mackenzie said.

“The beauty of it is when you’ve got kids riding you can see the entire arena from the house, so I could always see my daughter while she was down there.”

The same views, plus more of the hinterland, can be seen from the entertaining deck and from the parents’ retreat.

“We extended and put in a massive parents’ retreat, with a spa bath that overlooks the back paddock,” Mrs Mackenzie said.

Beyond the material – such as a fireplace, a dam and multiple carports – Mrs Mackenzie said she would miss the community the area offered.

“It’s a community – everyone knows each other, and everyone looks after each other,” Mrs Mackenzie said.

“One of the neighbours has been there for about 28 years, and the neighbour across the road – we all went to school together – he’s been there over thirty years.”

And it’s not just her that will miss Cedar Creek.

“I think my daughter will as well,” she said.

“And my husband, who was a firefighter for 34 years – he worked for the fire service as south-east region commissioner before going on to be deputy commissioner – he’s fought the fires in the area.

“So we know the area really well, and it’s got a really good community feeling – probably more so than living somewhere in town.

“We’ve been very blessed to be here, and I hope whoever buys it feels the same way.

“We just hope somebody else gets to make memories we made.”
