Our Seniors are a booming generation

We often talk about our city’s young people, but another important group of residents is also
“booming”.

In the five years leading to 2021, Logan’s 70 years-plus population grew by 39 per cent.

This October marks Queensland Seniors Month and an opportunity to connect with a growing local
community of senior citizens.

On Friday, we’ll see seniors from across Logan and South East Queensland come together for a day of
friendship and fun for the Logan Seniors Big Day Out.

The free event, at the Logan Entertainment Centre in Logan Central, celebrates and supports community belonging and social connection through activities, workshops and informative displays.

From 9am until 3pm, seniors will have the chance to participate in activities including breathwork
meditation, paint-and-sip classes, social boardgames, manicures and pedicures and gentle movement
classes.

The event will also feature two ticketed performances of Somewhere over the Rainbow: A Judy Garland
Tribute at 10am and 2pm.

The Logan Seniors Big Day Out is proof that age is no barrier to a social and active lifestyle, and we see
this throughout our community with a number of everyday initiatives that support our seniors to live life to the fullest.

Eligible residents over 65 can access the subsidised Council Cabs service provided by TransitCare –
Community Flyer to travel from home to their nearest major shopping centre and back for just $2.
The service operates from Tuesday to Friday in most Logan suburbs.

Bookings can be made through TransitCare on 1300 153 636 before 11am the day prior.

Seniors who may prefer to spend time at home with a furry companion can register for our senior pets
for senior people program.

The program matches and rehomes mature-aged animals with senior
residents, free of charge.

Residents interested in providing a loving home to an older pet can register via council’s website or visit
the Animal Management Centre at 213 Queens Rd, Kingston.

Our pensioners also continue to receive a discount on rates charges for owner-occupied properties.
Those on a full pension receive a concession of $402 per year, while those on a part pension receive
$201.

We’d love to see you at the Logan Seniors Big Day Out this Friday October 6. More information is
