Free fire ant treatment kits are available to Logan residents for a limited time.
The granular treatment, provided by Logan City Council, can be used safely around people, pets and wildlife.
Yards can be treated even if fire ants are not visible as they could be under the ground or on nearby properties.
Fire ants are copper-brown in colour with a dark abdomen and measure between 2mm and 6mm in length.
Fire ants inflict a painful, fiery sting.
Nests generally appear as mounds with no entry or exit holes.
