de Brenni’s newsletter: money-savers, Christmas and lifetime service

Half a century – and not out!

I’ve always been proud of my mum, having served over 25 years locally as a JP.

Justices of the Peace (JP) and Commissioners for Declarations (CDEC) are a trusted and dedicated group of locals who have a wealth of knowledge about our community.

They give up their own time to serve our community and have always played an important role in the administration of justice right across Queensland.

Daisy Hill’s very own Col Myers is one of many JPs in our community, but his service of an incredible 50 years is a milestone worth celebrating.

Fifty years of service as a JP is no small feat; it’s practically a lifetime of service to the community, marked by integrity and the pursuit of justice.

Col’s commitment and dedication to the community is truly inspiring.

His service extends to neighbourhood watch, foster care, our local ambulance committee and he’s probably best known for being scarce anytime Santa is around!

JPs like Col, bridge the gap between the legal system and us everyday citizens, offering accessibility and assistance in navigating legal intricacies.

They provide a vital link, upholding the principles of fairness, impartiality, and public service.

Congratulations Col, and thank you to all of the local JPs and CDECs for your invaluable contribution to the community.

Let’s help make Christmas special, for everyone!

Each Christmas, hundreds of families in our community simply don’t have the money to give Christmas presents to one another, let alone celebrate a Christmas dinner.

That’s why each year, and again this year, I’m excited to join with Youth Family Services (YFS), Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre Association (LECNA) and Uniting Care to collect Christmas cheer for their Christmas Hampers.

These Hampers made last year’s Christmas special, for hundreds of local families who benefited from them. This year, we’re hoping to bring this joy to more families…but we need your support.

Each year, YFS,  LECNA and Uniting Care back thousands of vulnerable people in our local area to overcome adversity and to thrive.

With your support, we can bring Christmas joy to everyone, especially locals who are doing it tough.

Donations can be delivered to my office at: Shop 4-6 71-73 Springwood Rd, Springwood 4127.

Public collection points will be advertised on my website.  www.mickdebreeni.com.au/events

Save on power bills, and help save the planet!

We all have that old fridge, or washing machine, weathered and worn after decades, that has become more than just an appliance; it’s a fixture of nostalgia and routine.

Despite its faulty seal and the quiet hum that suggests it’s working harder than it should, the thought of replacing it never quite translates to action.

Little did we know that old appliance was quietly costing us a small fortune in electricity, contributing to higher utility bills and more emissions than the planet can handle.

In 2023 local families are watching their budgets and considering their carbon footprint more than ever and inflation strikes and global warming hits home.

That’s why the Climate Smart Energy Savers program is so popular here in Logan.

There has never been a better time to replace an old appliance to a new energy efficient appliance than now!

Logan locals, Allan and Joy have just replaced their old fridge.

“Thanks to Mick for letting us know about the government rebate we’ve been able to replace our old fridge with a new and more efficient one,”

Purchasing a new 4 star appliance without this assistance would have been a strain on our budget, and now we look forward to our electricity bill to keep going down too.

“And a grateful thank you to Vanessa and Fiona from Mick’s electorate office for their assistance with the application too.” Allan Ploenges

By replacing old appliances, you are eligible for up to cash back up to $1000, depending on your income and the appliance.

If it’s time to bid a fond farewell to that trusty, if inefficient, old fridge or dryer, and embrace a more energy-efficient future, now is also the chance to save not only on energy bills, but also help take action on climate change. https://www.queenslandsavers.qld.gov.au/
