Warm weather is perfect for our cool parks

With school holidays now underway and the weather getting warmer, I encourage residents to take some time to visit their local park – or check out a new one.

The City of Logan has so much to offer through free outdoor fun with 962 council-managed parks and reserves that come in all shapes and sizes and with something to offer for all ages.

In the past year, I am delighted to advise that council has delivered a record $22 million capital works program in our parks.

This has included upgrades to facilities, replacing equipment and structures that have reached end-of-life and continued repairs to the damage caused by last year’s floods.

For those who may not have visited some of our local parks in a while, I can tell you the days of a park playground being just a slippery slide and a few swings are long gone.

Creative and engaging designs are now at the forefront with safety and all-abilities inclusion the uppermost considerations.

Environmental education and appreciation have also been factored into some park upgrades where appropriate.

One example is Eridani Park at Kingston, which has a dry creek bed with working water pumps, and a nature play area with boulders, stepping stones and logs to climb and balance on.

Greenbank’s Lavelle Park is also home to a picturesque lagoon, and recent upgrades include a new playground, barbecue, picnic facilities and a basketball half-court.

It’s no surprise this project has earned a nomination in the Landscape Queensland 2023 Awards.

In the coming months, you’ll also see major upgrades at other parks around our city.

Loganholme’s Alexander Clark Park now has a koala play tower standing almost five metres high as the centrepiece of a major project that will be open later this year.

And dinosaurs will be the stars of the show at Riverdale Park at Meadowbrook, thanks to a vote by local students who participated in a ‘Councillor for a Day’ exercise.

So, get some fresh air and take the kids for a play in a Logan park over the next couple of weeks.

It’ll be fun for everyone!
