Logan Dementia Alliance plants hope

The Logan Dementia Alliance is holding its annual tree planting to commemorate World Dementia Day this Thursday, 21 September .

The day falls under Dementia Action Week aiming to bring communities together to become more dementia friendly.

It’s about removing the stigma and discrimination of people living with dementia, which in Logan is around 2000 residents.

The freshly formed Logan Dementia Choir, a group that only began rehearsing early this year, will be entertaining attendees.

The choir is comprised of locals with dementia diagnoses, as well as their spouses, family members and friends.

Group member Norma Hambling said the choir was a great way for people impacted by dementia to get together.

“We offer support, companionship and information,” Ms Hambling said.

“One of the big issues with dementia is people often feel isolated and socially excluded; there is still social stigma associated with a dementia diagnosis.

“The Logan Dementia Choir will address all of these issues.”

The event will be held at Logan Gardens near Logan Brothers Civic Park, at 10.30am.
