More than 25,000 people across Queensland are waiting for government-assisted housing according to a quarterly report into the social housing register.
As at 30 June 2023 there are a total of 25,364 applications on the social housing register across Queensland – a reduction by 7.6 per cent in the last financial year.
The data reveals more than 5,000 households have been assisted into social housing over the last 12 months.
Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon said the quarterly report would help housing stakeholders and the community better understand public housing demand and any emerging trends or patterns.
“Right around Australia, national housing pressures are having an impact – and Queensland has not been immune,” Ms Scanlon said.
“It’s why we are rolling out a record $5 billion investment to help deliver 13,500 homes, and we want to make sure that rollout is as effective as possible.”
“We want to make sure that our systems and investment are fit-for-purpose and that Queenslanders receive the right support, at the right time to meet their needs.
“This is part of my commitment to transparency and being up front with the community about the challenges in the housing market.”
