People looking forward to rebates

The state government’s $8.2 billion worth of concessions handed down in last month’s budget has been welcomed by the people of Logan, with my electorate office being flooded with calls of support.

The concessions, including $1.5 billion in energy rebates, will help all Logan families battling the national cost-of-living challenge.

Since announcing the concessions on June 13 when deliver the State Budget many people have contacted the Woodridge Electorate Office to find out more about the concessions.

Most people have been looking forward to receiving the benefits from the energy rebates.

The rebates mean that every single household will receive at least $550 and small businesses receive $650 off their electricity bills.

Importantly, pensioners and concession card holders will be eligible for up to $1072 off their bills.

This rebate will mean some people won’t pay anything for electricity next year.

This rebate will take pressure off households dealing with the cost-of-living pressure while simultaneously lowering power prices, which will have a deflationary impact on inflation.

For those looking forward to receiving the rebates, they should expect them to start affecting their energy bills from as early as July 1.

The exact timing of the rebates will depend on household’s energy provider’s billing cycles.

It is important to know that for concession card holders to receive up to $1072 off their bills, they must contact their energy provider and inform them they are concession card holders.

This applies to Queensland Seniors Card, Services Australia or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concessions Card, Services Australia Health Care Card, Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card and ImmiCard to prove Asylum seeker status.

For those who have provided these details to their energy provider for previous rebates will not have to provide them again.

Another key cost-of-living measurer in the Budget was offering free Kindy to all Queensland families.

The concession offers all families with a four-year-old free kindy, saving them up to $4600 a year.

The measurer is party of the kindy reform package and will begin on January 1, 2024.
