Upgrades to Eridani Park at Kingston are nearing completion, and $13 million is soon to be spent on other parks.
Eridani Park is one of six parks receiving major funding from Logan City Council’s latest budget, which allocated a total of $63 million to Logan parks.
Of this funding, $13 million was promised to new and upgrade works over the next 12 months.
The $1.7 million Eridani Park project has given the park a nature play area, a new basket swing and flying fox, water play pumps, a fitness station and a volleyball court.
There’s also a new picnic shelter, toilet block, more parking and safety cameras, as well as a bike-skills track and scooter trail currently under construction.
A local resident who has lived across from the park for 33 years, Mary Pauga, said she had never seen the park look so nice.
“It is free and convenient fun for all the local kids including my grandchildren,” Mary said.
“Previously, we couldn’t get them out of the house but now they spend all day in the park as there is so much for them to do.
“We are very proud to have this park in our neighbourhood.”
Kingston’s local councillor Teresa Lane said upgrades were an instant hit, receiving a “giant thumbs up from everyone in the local community”.
“Whether it’s the playground, the nature play area or the basketball court, this is free local fun for families and visitors,” Cr Lane said.
Council has revealed other major parks works to include:
- A $6.34 million staged upgrade to Alexander Clark Park at Loganholme, which will improve the existing playground and water play area, add a new play tower and zip line, an active sports area, a multi-purpose open space, as well as make more parking and upgrade the toilet facilities and walking tracks.
- The $4.6 million construction of a new recreation park, Flindersia Riverside Park at Logan Reserve, to service the increasing local community.
