Logan welcomes new stars of the small screen to its ranks.
Logan Reserve residents Michael and Melody Muchow, and their three children, Miller (8), Magnolia (4) and Maisy (1), star on Channel Nine’s Parental Guidance.
The show is pitched as the search for “Australia’s best parenting style” – where 12 sets of parents meet to complete challenges that put their parenting styles to the test.
Mr and Mrs Muchow, both musicians, are described as having an “unstructured” family style, with a child-led approach prioritising mental well-being over “conventional measures of success”.
“Michael and I are very conscious about how we parent,” Mrs Muchow said.
“We’re both musicians, we don’t work a normal nine to five job – we thought our parenting would be very, very different to other people.
“But what we did learn from being on the show is that we actually parent in quite a similar way to a lot of other people.”
The couple said they were “beyond nervous” to watch themselves on television.
“We’re nervous because you just never know how you’re going to be received,” Mrs Muchow said.
“That negative feedback that can come when you put yourself out there to the world is a scary thing.
“Particularly because we’ve got three kids – we want to protect them from any of those things.”
Despite their nerves, she said they loved the filming experience.
“It was an adventure, we got to do cool things, and it was also a really good growth and learning experience for us as parents and as humans,” she said.
“We learned so much from watching other parents and from speaking to the experts on the show.”
Mr and Mrs Muchow moved to Logan from inner-city Brisbane to send their kids to school.
“We’ve just really fallen in love with it,” Mrs Muchow said.
“We live in a little estate in Logan Reserve, and we’ve got a park around the corner, we know all of our neighbours, the kids play in the cul-de-sac and just we absolutely love it.”
She said her family would love to participate in the show again, and it was a “positive thing for all parents to be involved with, even if they’re just viewing it”.
