Plastic not fantastic anymore

Logan’s four Big W stores are phasing out reusable plastic bags as part of the company’s nation-wide commitment to environmental sustainability.

Over the next few weeks, BIG W will reduce stock of their 15c and 45c plastic bags, and bring in new paper bags, removing over 480 tonnes of plastic from circulation per year.

They will also be encouraging locals to use their own bags.

In addition to the 100 per cent paper bag, Big W will offer a wider range of reusable bags, including a new 99c bag which is made from 70 per cent recycled material.

These changes are already in effect in Western Australia and are now taking being phased-in nationwide.

The Big W managing director, Dan Hake, said every small change could make a big difference.

“… this is an exciting next step in our sustainability journey,” Mr Hake said.

“Since we stopped giving away single-use plastic bags in 2018, we’ve seen an incredible effort from our customers to change the way they shop for the better by bringing their own bags.

“We’d like to thank them for doing their bit for the environment and we’re looking forward to continuing to work together towards a more sustainable future.”
