Fire a stark reminder of local heroes

AS we learn all too often within our communities, fire poses a massive threat to homes, businesses and human life.
Over the past week, the Logan community has been mourning the loss of Izabella Nash, the firefighter killed in last week’s Underwood fire.
There has been an outpouring of tributes for the brave and dangerous work Izzy did, and which her colleagues continue to do.
And rightly so.
These people are on the front line putting their lives at risk each time they attend a fire, small or large.
Along with our police and other emergency service workers, medical staff and frontline workers, Izzy was a valued member of a critical network of people whose families watch anxiously each day to see that they are home safely from their work.
It’s work they often do because they love it, but it’s also work they’re doing because they want to help others.
Izzy paid the ultimate price, and will be remembered as “always the first person to step in”. It’s a sad and tragic loss.
Let it be a reminder to us all of the sacrifice some people make in their line of duty to protect us all from danger.
A “thank you” and a pat on the back never goes astray.
