Candlelight vigil remembers those impacted by domestic violence

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night (3 May) to remember and respect those impacted by domestic and family violence.

The night commemorated Queensland’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month and was held on the forecourt of the Logan Entertainment Centre.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to decorate a ‘hope tree’ with inspirational messages.

Mayor Darren Power said the vigil provided an opportunity to strengthen people’s resolve to speak out against domestic and family violence.

“We want to send a clear message that any form of violence is never acceptable,” Cr Power said.

“We also want to remember those who have lost their lives and the people left behind – family, friends, neighbours and workmates.”

Before the vigil Cr Natalie Willcocks unveiled plaques on a bench seat at Spring Mountain Lagoon Park to raise awareness about domestic and family violence.

The bench will be the latest of several throughout Logan.

Council’s Administration Building in Logan Central and three water towers in Underwood, Shailer Park and Hillcrest will be illuminated purple and orange throughout May as recognition of DV prevention month.
