Look to krank things up over the holidays

With school holidays underway, parents and carers are looking for interesting things for the kids to do.

Council has come to the rescue to hopefully help with the inevitable “mum, I’m bored” conversations.

Our fantastic schedule of activities are sure to  ‘KRANK’ up the fun dial on the school holiday calendar.

Council’s KRANK program is an exciting and multi-faceted offering covering a range of activities for children and youth.

From boxing to bushwalking, bubble soccer, rock-climbing and go-karting, there really is something for everyone.

You can even get creative and learn how to upcycle electronic waste into designer jewellery, or learn some of the traditional Yugambeh language and print your own t-shirt.

The ‘Kranksters’ tell me  there are also limited kits available for at-home activities for those who can’t make it to an event. Bookings are now open but get in quick as the sessions fill up fast.

Combined with our Summer Reading Club at the libraries, there  are plenty of options available and I invite Logan’s young people to participate.

Almost 600 Logan children have signed up to the reading club already, a fantastic sign the book worms are already active and flipping pages to explore ‘tales of wonder’ – the theme for this program.

To make reading fun, participants are encouraged to set their own reading challenge or goal over the school holidays.

There’s also free take-home activity packs and online workshops.

Library members can also borrow science and technology kits and robots from their local library.

To add a sprinkle of Christmas spirit, Council has transformed the Billabong Circuit trail at Berrinba Wetlands into a dazzling lighting display with music, bringing the joy of Christmas to the City of Logan.

There will also be food trucks, where snack food options are available for purchase and kids and the young-at-heart can use a mobile phone to participate in a free  snowball-slinging action game through the park.

Whether it’s learning new hobbies, exploring your creative potential, or just enjoying the festive spirit, be sure to get out and about these holidays.
