Fighting for road funding

Since I was first elected as the Member for Forde in 2010, I have been fighting to improve the Pacific Highway Motorway, or M1, which runs through the heart of my electorate.

This major roadway, linking Brisbane, Logan, the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales, carries as many as 150,000 commercial vehicles and commuters every day.

With such high volumes of traffic, it is inevitable that there will be heavy congestion and frequent delays, and as ours is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, there will be even more traffic in the future.

Since elected, I have been able to secure funding for a number of projects on the M1, such as Exit 41 at Yatala South, and the $20 million upgrade of Exit 45, which is all-but complete, and financed 50:50 by the Federal and State Governments.

At Exit 49, in Pimpama, preliminary earthworks are underway, with the clearing of land for the new northbound on and off ramps and removal of the existing roundabouts.

In more good news for locals, the Norris Creek bridge on the Mount Lindesay Highway was recently completed along with the widening of the roadway between Stoney Camp and Chambers Flat Road.

Meanwhile, I will keep fighting for federal funding from the Albanese government to upgrade Exit 38 at Yatala South, to eliminate the daily congestion and dangerous traffic jams that snake back onto the M1.

Our region deserves better roads and I will continue to pressure both the state and federal governments to provide funding to ensure that motorists in Logan City and the northern Gold Coast can enjoy safer and smoother trips, and more time with family and friends doing the things they love.
