Here’s a tip, go to the dump

LOGAN might be close to some of the best fun parks in the world, but Logan City Council wants us to spend a day at the dump.

It’s all part of recycling week this week, and poses an opportunity to learn about the environment at Browns Plains Waste and Recycling Facility.

The free worm farm and composting workshop is from noon until 1pm on Saturday, and helps people get on top of turning leftovers into fertiliser.

There are also sessions on managing waste and recycling correctly and the best ways to use recyclable bags. They are on from 1pm-2.30pm.

Council’s environment chair Jon Raven said families and individuals should give it a go.

“Composting and worm farming are hugely important for the environment and helps reduce waste and the amount of rubbish we send to landfill,” Cr Raven said.

“The more people we can equip with this knowledge, the better.”

There are also two upcycling workshops – a children’s session from 10am-11.30am, and for adults, a workshop is on from 1pm-2.30pm.

Register at logan.qld.gov.au/events and follow the links to Upcycle Recycle Day. It’s at 41 Recycle Wat, Heritage Park.
