A business case is being prepared to investigate the duplication of Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road between Milne Street and Tallagandra Road at Mount Warren Park.
The project gained $5 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Urban Congestion Fund in early 2019.
The State Government matched the commitment in August this year.
Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen took a swing at the state government for “pushing back construction timelines”, but said it was pleasing to see action.
Mr van Manen issued a statement last Monday for residents to have their say on the project. Submissions closed last Friday.
“This planning work should have been done months ago and sadly, residents will be left waiting even longer before shovels hit the ground,” Mr van Manen said.
“We know how congested this section of road is, especially during school pick up and drop off times.”
Mr van Manen said the upgrade was needed to ease congestion and improve road safety for residents.
“The current size of the road cannot keep up with demand. It presently goes from one lane to two lanes and to one lane again. It just doesn’t make sense,” Mr van Manen said
