People were left to sleep in their cars last night as the Logan Motorway closed for more than eight hours.
A Logan man, 33, died in a crash in horrific circumstances at Heathwood.
Police said initial investigations indicated that a car was travelling east along the Motorway near Exit 17 when it lost control and crashed into a guardrail shortly after 9.30pm.
As a result of the crash, a man has stepped out of the vehicle and was standing in the left hand lane of the motorway.
A number of approaching vehicles have then taken evasive action, resulting in a separate crash which struck the man.
The 33-year-old Logan man was transported to hospital in a critical condition, where he has since died as a result of his injuries.
A 37-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
The road was cleared soon after 5am and the motorway reopened.
One woman reported being stuck for seven hours, from soon after 10.30pm.
“We were trying to sleep in our cars, but it was difficult,” she said.
She said she was unaware of the cause of the holdup until seeing the news in the morning.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area is being urged to contact police.
