An Asian night market and an outdoor movie theatre are being planned for the site previously used for Bunnings Underwood.
The site has become home to one of Australia’s biggest children’s play areas, Area 51, and the owners are looking to expand quickly.
Council is spruiking the facility as the latest to embrace the city’s Investment Attraction Incentive Fund, a bucket of money geared to attract investment to the region.
Cr Teresa Lane said the community was excited to see Area 51 turn into a great local attraction.
“When the Asian night markets kick off, and the outdoor theatre starts up, a great night-time economy will draw even more visitors to the City of Logan,” Cr Lane said.
Council research argues that more than 1000 jobs were created in manufacturing, health, medical and tourism infrastructure across the city in the last financial year.
The research argues that for the $635,000 invested by the city, $448 million was invested in capital.
Council’s economic chief Jon Raven said the fund was a game changer.
“Logan is open for business. Councils are often seen as a barrier to local business, but we want to be the opposite,” Cr Raven said.
“The numbers speak for themselves – the best place to run a successful business in South East Queensland is the City of Logan.”
