This year’s Queensland Budget backs the people of Logan by investing in businesses, industries and our frontline to create good secure jobs.
From tax breaks and training to the creation of new positions, we are making sure there are more opportunities available for everyone in our local workforce.
And our ongoing efforts are working. We know this by the employment trends we’re currently seeing in our city.
More than 14,000 Logan residents are in jobs now than before the pandemic, and importantly our youth unemployment is down, giving more young people the incentive to stay local and raise a family here.
Since 2015 we’ve hired 524 extra teachers, 509 extra nurses, 48 extra ambos and 41 extra police officers for Logan, and we’ll keep growing these numbers further.
We’re creating capacity to do this through our significant capital works program, with $815.4 million ready to go in 2022-23 towards Logan infrastructure.
That’s investment in roads, health and education facilities, and our community at large, supporting 2500 jobs.
And with our successful training and skills initiatives like Skilling Queenslanders for Work, the Back to Work program, and free TAFE for under 25s, we’re ensuring our workers are ready to thrive.
In total we’re putting $1.2 billion into skills and training across our state with this budget, so Queenslanders can carve out the career pathway they desire.
We also continue to deliver industry development programs like Made in Queensland for our manufacturing sector, and the Jobs and Regional Growth Fund, which is helping build a new $4.2 million Berrinba facility for Beenleigh Steel Fabrications.
Tax cuts for small-and-medium sized businesses, meanwhile, will see most local operators stay paying nothing in payroll tax.
This is all about stimulating employment and strengthening our economy to build a brighter future for Logan.
