John Paul College gets new principal

CRAIG Merritt has been appointed John Paul College’s sixth principal.

With a clearly demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, Mr Merritt strongly advocates inclusive and diverse leadership within a modern multifaith context.

He comes from St Luke’s Anglican School in Bundaberg, a school of more than 1000 students which has become one of Queensland’s leading regional schools in NAPLAN and ATAR performance.

Before St Luke’s, he was deputy principal at Hillbrook Anglican School (2010-2016) and head of senior school at Whitsunday Anglican School (2007-2009).

Mr Merritt holds a Master of Education (Leadership and Management), Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Arts (History and Economics) and is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Theology.

The new principal appointment is made following an extensive national and international search.

The school conducted a survey of the school community, asking which key characteristics a new principal should have.

Mr Merritt starts January 2023.

Karen Spiller will continue to lead the school until her retirement in December.
