If there was ever an example of a city council abrogating its responsibility to make a decision that would create over 100 jobs and enhance an existing facility to benefit its constituents, this one would be hard to beat.
Meadowbrook Golf Club members have filed an application with LCC for a poker machine licence.
The club has repeatedly requested to meet with the mayor and his team since filing the application and those requests have been met with a stony silence.
The council has thus far refused the club owners’ request for mediation on other lingering matters, and they’ve given no reason for their refusal to even meet with the club.
Rather than approve the request or even discuss the application with the club, this council has appointed a litigation lawyer – to do precisely what, is a mystery.
Perhaps if the council were to meet with the club and define any problems they may have with the application, the matter could be resolved and save both parties hundreds of thousands in legal fees.
The additional facilities required to accommodate the machines will provide for over 100 new jobs for the construction, maintenance and ongoing management of the new facilities and will enhance what is now an excellent social and sporting facility with in excess of 1300 members the great majority of whom are Logan City Council constituents.
One may well ask, why would a council refuse to even discuss what is a legitimate improvement to an existing facility?
Perhaps there is an underlying reason?
The council may want to consider the incredible level of angst their intransigence is causing in the Logan community and they can rest assured that this matter will not go away.

Meadowbrook Golf Club member.
