Rural fire service trainer honoured

BEENLEIGH Rural Fire Service training and support officer Garry Fordham will this week be recognised among 90 remarkable Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) workers.

They’ll be receiving their delayed Australia Day Achievement Awards for selfless service to regional communities across the state.

Mr Fordham is being recognised among his peers as someone who has gone above and beyond his role, showing commitment to the Rural Fire Service.

He has supported volunteers’ wellbing, particularly during the 2019/2020 bushfire season. He has also worked hard to ensure essential training for volunteers has continued.

The awards were delayed due to Covid restrictions.

“QFES is home to thousands of dedicated staff and volunteers committed to serving their local communities through disasters and emergencies,” Commissioner Greg Leach said.

“All recipients of this year’s Australia Day Achievement Awards, and indeed all those within QFES, go above and beyond to keep Queensland safe.”

QFES staff and volunteers will receive accolades in recognition of outstanding character, integrity and leadership during these ceremonies.
