Beenleigh hospitality students get taste of the real world

Beenleigh State High School hospitality students were rewarded for a year of events with a two-day visit to some of Brisbane’s finest establishments.

They were taken for a tour of the $25,000 a night penthouse at Emporium, Southbank, given a croquembouche masterclass, and a dinner at a Turkish restaurant, complete with belly dancer as entertainment.

Teachers said the day was reward for the extra hours students have put into hospitality functions at the school.

The tour of Emporium included a front-of-house and back-of-house tour, offering an insight into how a 5-star hotel operates.

After staying in the hotel, day two of the experience started with an a la carte breakfast, and access to the infinity pool, sauna, gym and steam room. They then moved on to Howard Street Wharves.

“This two-day experience really opened the students eyes to the opportunities that are now in front of them as they end their secondary schooling,” hospitality head of department Chanelle Cuell said.

“The close proximity of the city on a 40-minute train ride, provides easy access for students if they wish to search for employment in the City of Brisbane.”
