Logan first in Queensland to host DV Safe Phone drop-off

Logan Central Police is the first station in Queensland to be a drop-off point for the “Domestic Violence Safe Phone Program”.

The program allows people who have old mobile phones lying around to drop them off to the station.

They would be configured for people in situations of domestic violence to use safely.

The program is already making a difference to more than 300 people, and the drop box at Logan Central Police Station will be open 24 hours a day.

“The mobile phone is something that many of us take for granted, but it can be a lifesaver for victims of domestic and family violence,” police said.

“DV Safe Phone will ensure your old mobile phone is erased, tested and distributed to someone in need.

“So get digging through your drawer and cupboards and you might just help save a life.”

Before handing it in, make sure you:

  • erase all data
  • remove SIM and/or memory cards
  • sign out of accounts
  • and unlock the phone.

“We here at Logan Village Station and Logan District Crime Prevention Unit are donating our old mobile phones in support of this wonderful initiative,” police said.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic and family violence, you should report it to police.

Support and counselling is available from the following agencies:

  • DVConnect Womensline – 1800 811 811
  • DVConnect Mensline – 1800 600 636
  • 188 RESPECT – 1800 737 732

More information is also available from the Queensland Government Domestic and Family Violence portal.
