AS the May 21 election draws nearer, there are a number of pledges being made by candidates from the major parties.
So far, the biggest has been from the Labor Party, to upgrade Loganlea Rd, a widening of the road from the motorway through to the M1.
That would come at a cost of $22.5 million.
Member for Forde Bert van Manen has promised a number of sporting projects, totaling almost $9 million.
Beenleigh’s Hammel Park Sport Precinct would receive a $3.6 million upgrade in a 50:50 funding split with Logan City Council, Beenleigh Tennis Club would get a $5 million upgrade, and in smaller commitments Loganholme Cricket would receive new lighting and Twin Rivers Mallet (Croquet Club) would get new courts.
“Sadly, the clubhouses and other amenities have been neglected for so long that they are now in desperate need of refurbishment,” Mr van Manen said.
Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers says under Labor, Logan would receive a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, aimed at speeding up the process to see a doctor under bulk billing arrangements.
“As the dad of three kids, I know that being able to quickly access help for non-life-threatening injuries will make a huge difference for local families,” Mr Chalmers said.
Mr Chalmers has also pledged $800,000 for more security cameras across the community.
The money would be for 10 new security cameras across the city, however Logan City Council says this falls short of the $6 million required.
Forde Labor candidate Rowan Holzerberger promised outdoor learning and oval rectification works at Boronia Heights State School.
