Eagleby’s Brigalow Country Community Club is on the hunt for talented locals to join their Club Band and “give back to the community”.
Brigalow Country Community Club Treasurer Lynda Terry says the non-profit organisation, situated at Oliver Sports Complex, hosts regular events for singing, dancing and socialising.
“We require reliable people who are keen to be part of this fun, relaxed club and are genuinely willing to give their time,” she said.
“We are family orientated and it is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can come to meet new and old friends, have a drink at the bar or a coffee and a bite to eat from our kitchen.”
The ‘Brigalow Brumbies’ occasionally play or sing for the community at voluntary events, as well as perform regularly at their own club practice nights on Thursday evenings.
President Max Noble says the band also performs once a month at their regular social events.
“The first Saturday of every month is a great social night and a nice atmosphere in the club which is what you need,” Mr Noble said.
“It’s like being in the country in the middle of the city.
“There’s a lot of retired musos and once they come back and start playing, it’s a new lease of life for them, building friendships and having fun.
“Anyone that comes along and wants to have a go, even if they want to come along and watch and get the feeling for it, we encourage them to do that.”
In addition to hosting social events and entertaining the community, Brigalow Country Community Club assists “those less fortunate than themselves” by servicing and delivering donated furniture on occasions, as well as donating health aids such as wheelchairs and walkers to those in need.
“It’s a low income area and there’s a big need for it.
“We hold a disability support group and have the band come there on the first and third Tuesday of every month. We give them free morning tea, lunch, and raffle tickets.
