LOGAN City Council wants to know how you think we should be managing waste.
Council has drafted a plan to manage waste and recover resources in the city over the next decade.
More than 225,000 tonnes of waste is handled every year in the City of Logan. About 48,000 tonnes is recycled.
Council wants to reduce household waste generation by 25% and recycle 95% of household waste by 2050.
Deputy mayor Jon Raven said reducing levels of waste was important for a more sustainable future.
“Reducing waste to landfill is important for the environment and cost of living pressures for our community. We’d love to hear residents’ feedback on this strategy,” Cr Raven said.
Council has so far introduced the following:
• Implementation of opt-in green bin service and compost bin rebate scheme
• Delivery of a waste and recycling education program to school and community groups.
• Establishment of e-waste and paint recycling at Council waste transfer stations.
Council is also planning for the future by partnering with Redlands and Ipswich councils to build a regional Material Recovery Facility at Browns Plains.
It could handle up to 60,000 tonnes of recycled materials annually.
