HOONS continue to have a target on their back with more cameras about to spy on their senseless joy rides.
Logan City Council has spent $8500 on new cameras, distributed to businesses that wanted extra security at their shopfronts.
The amount might be small across five businesses, but the man taking up the challenge to lead the fight against hoons, Cr Jacob Heremaia, says it’s a good move to be working with business owners.
Cameras will capture the actions of hooning drivers, and be passed on to police. One business that agreed to install the new cameras was Pinnacle Hardware at Berrinba.
Cr Heremaia heads up the city’s Hooning Taskforce.
“Hooning is a scourge on our industrial areas, but council will continue to work closely with business owners and police to ensure the safety and security of workplaces,” he said.
Deputy mayor Jon Raven said ever new camera was an extra tool for police.
“We want hoons to feel as though they’re being watched from every street corner,” he said.
