60 arrests in 48 hours

Logan police wasted no time in their week-long crime blitz, arresting 60 people and laying 118 charges in just the first 48 hours.

And there are more likely to come, with the specialist operation running until Tuesday (10 December).

Over two days last week, police zeroed in on Logan’s crime hotspots—shopping centres, train stations, and hoon hot spots—in their intensified crackdown.

Several teenagers were among the 60 arrested during the blitz, named Operation Whiskey Legion, facing a total of 25 charges.

A 14-year-old boy racked up charges including six counts of stealing, two of wilful damage, and one for entering premises to commit an indictable offence.

A 16-year-old girl was charged with five counts of stealing and one of trespass.

In a separate incident, five youths aged 12 to 16 were charged with offences ranging from wilful damage to police property to breach of bail and theft.

Police also rushed to a liquor store in Waterford West after reports of trolleys loaded with alcohol being stolen.

The chaos led to five arrests on the spot, with an intense foot chase through a nearby park resulting in the arrests of four more.

Police also arrested a women in Logan Central following the report of a stolen vehicle being located at the property.

Acting Chief Superintendent Brendan Smith praised the operation’s swift and targeted outcomes.

“We are already seeing significant results just days into Operation Whiskey Legion,” he said.

“This initiative is about more than arrests; it’s about making our community feel safer and ensuring we are targeting high-risk offenders who cause the most harm.”
