As we prepare to celebrate another Christmas and welcome in 2023 it is time to reflect on the past year, and it has been a memorable 12 months with a number of significant events.
For many people in the electorate of Forde the year began disastrously with widespread flooding.
Many of those affected by the floods have still not fully recovered and as we enter this traditional period of giving, we should spare a thought for those whose lives were disrupted.
In May we had the federal election. I was grateful to be re-elected as the federal member for Forde for a record fifth consecutive term, albeit with a move to the Opposition benches after Labor’s victory.
The other major event of the year was the sudden death of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II after 70 years dedicated to her subjects across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
I could not help but admire her unwavering dedication and service, working up until just a few days before passing away on September 8, at the age of 96.
After such an eventful year it is time for us all to take stock, rest, relax and be with family and friends as we gather to celebrate Christmas and look forward to the start of another year.
On behalf of my staff, family, and myself I wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Christmas, and I hope that 2023 is a successful and enjoyable year for all my constituents.
