200k tech-abuse fight

Local community services organisation YFS will steer a $200,000 program to tackle financial abuse, stalking and coercive control.

Technology-facilitated abuse is on the rise in Logan, and the program will consist of multiple sessions to help build awareness.

The Commonwealth Bank is funding the program.

YFS client service manager for domestic and family violence, Sarah Vuzem, said the organisation was thrilled to host the program.

“We are seeing escalating levels of technology-facilitated abuse, including financial abuse, stalking and coercive control enabled through technology products,” Ms Vuzem said.

“It is insidious and it’s becoming more sophisticated.

“We will be partnering with Concentric Concepts, a specialist security service to trial practical ways to help raise awareness about technology-facilitated abuse, increase safe use of technology, and upskill the community sector.

“Over the next 12 months we will be hosting ‘bring your device’ workshops and capacity building sessions for stakeholders, as well as security upgrades and technical surveillance sweeps for those impacted by domestic violence and financial abuse.”
