$140 million sports hub secured

I’ve got some exciting news for our city.

Last week we locked in $140 million in funding for an amazing new project in Logan that is sure to become a beacon for state, national and international sports and events.

If you haven’t already heard about the Logan Indoor Sports Centre, it’s multi-purpose indoor sports facility that our growing city needs, which is being built to an Olympic standard so that it can be used if needed when the games arrive.

Expressions of Interest to build it are officially open and I can’t wait to see work begin, because facilities like this inspire young people to stay active and reach for the stars.

As the youngest, fastest-growing and most diverse city in Queensland with Olympic-sized potential, we have some incredible athletes coming through the ranks.

Three levels of government have come together to make this happen.

It’s being jointly funding by the Australian and Queensland governments and the facility will be owned and operated by Logan City Council.

This venue will be able to host a range of sports, parasports and large-scale events. It will also be able to host 7,000 people inside.

It’s going to be built close to the Logan Entertainment Centre – on the site of the old PCYC building – and will be a great addition to our fantastic events hub – with Kingston Butter Factory not too far away.

The Indoor Sports Centre is just the latest in some fantastic new projects happening in our city.

The Beenleigh Aquatic Centre’s 50m pool is currently being built, replacing a 60-year-old pool.

The project also includes a new children’s play area and multipurpose rooms.

I have to thank our local state MPs Cameron Dick and Linus Power, as well as Federal Treasurer and Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers, who showed up for this announcement and leaned in on recognising the limitless potential of Logan.

Investment like this is exactly what we need to create a brighter future for our kids.
With nine indoor courts across two separate halls, this build will leave a legacy that our community will benefit from for decades to come.
