If you thought Yarrabilba was big, think again.
Still to come – not yet built – are 20 more hectares of shopping precinct including a town centre, 13,000 more homes, 20 new parks and seven more schools.
Yarrabilba is set to get bigger – much bigger.
Costing about $11billion, Yarrabilba is the fourth fastest selling master-planned project in Australia since 2012 with more than 1000 people moving there each year.
Lendlease head of Queensland communities Ian Murray said Yarrabilba already has more than 10,000 residents.
“At 2029 hectares – just under half the size of Cairns – Yarrabilba is already a thriving, modern township with four schools, four childcare centres, health services, a Coles supermarket, restaurants, cafes and sports fields and employment hubs,” he said.
“… communities offer a strong sense of belonging and authentic connection to community. Luxury of space and community connection are real drivers for homebuyers now.”
“As at May 2022, there are 3623 dwellings occupied within Yarrabilba, with 10,507 residents.”
According to Lendlease there are 13,000 more homes yet to be delivered, expecting to bring 35,000 more residents to the suburb.
Mr Murray said education was a key focus moving forward, to service the growing community.
“Yarrabilba’s newest precinct, The Parks will include a new district sports park, a district recreational park, other neighbourhood parks and a $65 million state primary school set to open in 2023,” he said.
“Education has been key focus in Lendlease’s vision for Yarrabilba, with $21 million committed by the State Government for the construction of an additional building at the existing Yarrabilba State High School, $30.5 million for the second stage of Yarrabilba State Secondary College and $1.5 million for community TAFE learning pilot.”
“There are four schools, four childcare centres, one kindergarten and a further seven schools proposed for delivery in the future.”
He said there are also another five sporting and recreation hubs on the cards.
The shopping scene is also set get bigger – much bigger – with “a future 20 hectares” of shopping precincts to come, including a proposed town centre.
“With three hectares of convenience shopping already delivered and another twenty hectares to come there will be more local jobs and spending within our community,” Mr Murray said.
“To date, the development has generated more than 1,700 onsite jobs with a further 11,300 projected.”
Yarrabilba resident, Jody Brown said she’s excited by the news.
“I have lived here for the past two years, and I have been looking forward to seeing the new developments,” she said.
“We have schools, gyms, supermarkets, child care centres and now to hear there will be more educational and shopping options, that’s exciting.
“It’s a family friendly community with parks, now the rail trail and community events, and a good place for my young kids to grow up.”
Mr Murray said Yarrabilba residents can also expect 20 more community and neighbourhood parks in the future.
