UPDATED: Man arrested in NSW after woman dies in Buccan

A Buccan man, 36, has been arrested by police in New South Wales after his carer, a 46-year-old Ashgrove woman, was found dead at his residence on Monday, police said.

Police arrested the man in Kempsey, 465km south of his residence, yesterday at around 2pm.

Police said the man was charged with offences unrelated to the woman’s death, but that Queensland Police Service investigators had travelled to NSW to speak with the man.

Acting Detective Inspector of QPS’s Logan district, Justin Anderson, said the investigation was still in its infancy.

Police have appealed to the public for dash-camera footage which captures cars that travelled east along Acton Street towards Waterford-Tamborine Road at Buccan from 7.30pm on Saturday, 10 January to 2.30pm on Sunday, 11 January.

The woman was last seen at 7pm on Saturday, 10 January, when she dropped a family member off at a party in the Gap.

She was later reported missing by family members at 1am on Monday, 12 January.

In response to this missing persons report, police said they conducted a welfare check at a property on Waterford Tamborine Road in Buccan, where they found the woman, who they declared dead, on the property’s rear deck at around 3.15am.

Police said they were conducting thorough searches of the roughly 20,000sqm property, which was “heavily grassed” and included a dam.

The woman’s cause of death is yet to be determined, but police said she had sustained multiple injuries.

The man was expected to face court in NSW today.
