A $90 million expansion of Holmview Central will feature a family tavern, further increasing the density of pubs and competition in the area.
The new tavern will be a fresh competitor for Fitzy’s Waterford, Club Waterford, Windaroo Tavern, the Royal Hotel and the Impreial Hotel – all within about 5km of the new pub.
Beenleigh Tavern, Meadowbrook Hotel and a number of clubs are within a 10km radius .
Located on the corner of Logan River Road and Gardiner Road, the Holmview expansion is being overseen by the Lancini Property Group, who dub the new tavern a “family friendly hotel including multiple children’s play areas, indoor and alfresco dining, a microbrewery, sports bar, and a large outdoor piazza” and a proposed gaming room.
Statistics last week revealed more than $100 million had been squandered on the pokies in Logan this year so far.
Local eateries in the current Holmview Centre are hopeful the extra patronage to the centre won’t affect their current business levels.
A plateful of fish and chips is a standard tavern meal, but 7 Seas Fish n Chips Takeaway manager Kaminee Pateo isn’t worried about new competition.
She said the takeaway outlet had a strong and loyal customer base.
“I am pretty excited about it actually, I’m sure it will be fine,” Ms Pateo said.
“New car parks will be nice, and they have said the development will cause minimal disruption to our current customers so we feel as if it will be no trouble.”
The original expansion application included plans to build a cinema complex but were rejected by council.
Advice from Lancini Property Group suggests construction will take two years to complete, with 2024 commencement.
According to the statement “the existing centre will remain open throughout the expansion, and will trade its normal trading hours,”
“As the centre is expanding onto adjoining land, there will be little to no disruptions to the existing centre and its retailers, suppliers and customers.”
Aside from the tavern the expansion will include:
- A second full-line supermarket with drive thru ‘click & collect’ facilities
- New specialty retailers
- Two drive-thru food outlets
- A tyre & auto operator
- 475 additional car parks
- A new signalised intersection (entry and exit) on Logan River Road
- A new rear ring road, located behind the new and existing Centre, that links Logan River Road and Gardiner Road.
