If you’re looking for where all the cool kids are hanging out, they’ll be either at a table, or rather oddly perched on a patch of green in the middle of a carpark at Daisy Hill.
If they’re not in their activewear or lycra, they’ll have chinos and white shoes, quite possibly sipping on a breakfast cocktail with elderflower, pomegranate syrup, bitters, rosemary and berries.
Either that, or an organic hot chocolate, turmeric latte or sticky brewed chai.
If it all sounds a little “nose in the air”, don’t be fooled. It’s rather laid back.
But don’t make the mistake of thinking this is an all-day affair. These are morning people and by lunch, they’ll be looking to wind down – the patrons, not the cafe owners.
We are of course at St Coco, which is found in the same shopping strip complex as Ritchies IGA, and it’s a place that since opening has attracted the active, chic end of town.
It’s perhaps by virtue of the creativity that the owners have injected into the place, from the drinks through to the food menu which has an all-day breakfast menu as its centrepiece.
Vegetarians will delight over the dish they’ve called “little beans” for its slow-cooked cannellini beans with tomato and ancho. Hash browns add some crunch alongside sesame toasted kale, avocado, furikake and a poached egg.
Furikake is that dry seasoning usually put on Japanese food, made with sesame seeds and seaweed.
More of a meat person? Many will struggle to make their way through the $28 big breakfast. It’s the most expensive item on the menu, but for good reason.
Bacon, sausage, mushrooms, halloumi, half an avocado, eggs, sourdough toast and a few trimmings like beetroot relish and roasted tomatoes.
More of a sweet tooth? There’s peanut and biscuit waffles with coconut and vanilla jelly, banana and raspberry sorbet.
The staff are friendly and the setting clean and comfortable.
It’s open until 2.30pm and there are some enticing lunch dishes such as crispy fried chicken tacos, a brisket burger, or jackfruit tartine.
It’s licensed, but the real attraction are the more healthy drink options, made with freshly juiced fruit and vegetables.
